Beatrice Chebet from Kenya showcased her talent, leading the way for an impressive African top-three finish in the women’s 3000m at the Diamond League event held in Stockholm, Sweden, on Sunday.
Despite challenging weather conditions, Chebet managed to clock her best time of the season, completing the race in 14 minutes and 36.52 seconds. Following closely behind were Lemlem Hailu and Medina Eisa from Ethiopia, securing second and third place, respectively.
In the women’s 1500m, Ethiopia demonstrated its dominance, claiming all three medals. Freweyni Hailu took the lead with an impressive time of 4 minutes and 2.31 seconds. Reflecting on her victory, Hailu shared, “The win feels great, but the weather made the competition less than ideal. However, as athletes, we must learn to adapt to all conditions,” as reported by Reuters.
African athletes celebrated further successes on the track, with South Africa’s Akani Simbine taking the top spot in the men’s 100m race, while Zakithi Nene secured victory in the men’s 400m event. Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati also shined, winning the men’s 800m race.
