Chelsea has announced the appointment of Enzo Maresca as their new head coach, replacing Mauricio Pochettino. Maresca, who previously coached Leicester City, has signed a five-year contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until June 30, 2029.
Maresca’s task will be to build on the progress made by Pochettino, who improved Chelsea from a mid-table team in the 2022-2023 season to a top-six club in 2023-2024. Pochettino also guided Chelsea to a second-place finish in the Carabao Cup and the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
While Pochettino boasts achievements like winning the league cup with Paris Saint-Germain and taking Tottenham Hotspur to the UEFA Champions League final, Maresca’s notable managerial experience includes leading Leicester City to promotion back to the Premier League this past season. Previously, the 44-year-old served as an assistant coach under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Maresca is the fourth permanent coach appointed by Chelsea under the ownership of American investor Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, which began in May 2022. He will start working with the Chelsea squad not involved in international duties from July 4.
Chelsea’s co-sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, expressed their enthusiasm for Maresca’s arrival. “We are delighted to welcome Enzo to Chelsea. He has proven himself to be an excellent coach capable of delivering impressive results with an exciting and identifiable style,” they said. “Enzo has deeply impressed us in our discussions leading up to his appointment. His ambitions and work ethic align with those of the club. We thoroughly look forward to working with him.”
