Nigeria, along with three other African nations, is set to welcome Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and China’s Foreign Minister, later this month.
The visit, scheduled from January 5 to January 11, 2025, will also include stops in Namibia, the Republic of the Congo, and Chad. This annual tradition was confirmed by Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, in a statement on Friday.
Mao noted that the visits are at the invitation of the host countries and mark the 35th year in a row that China’s foreign minister has chosen Africa for the first overseas trip of the year—a gesture underscoring the strong ties between China and the continent.
