According to Ethiopia’s Public Health Institute (EPHI), a cholera outbreak has killed 37 people in the last six months in areas hardest hit by the country’s ongoing prolonged drought.
The outbreak began in August 2022, primarily in the Oromia and Somale regions, which are experiencing the worst drought in 40 years, according to the UN.

Authorities say treatment centers have been established to help control the situation.
According to EPHI’s report, a measles outbreak has claimed 148 lives in the last 18 months.
