In a significant verdict, an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court delivered a ruling on Friday, convicting Lagos bishop Oluwafeyiropo Daniels of raping his 23-year-old assistant (identity withheld).
Justice Rahman Oshodi, presiding over the case, found Daniels, who serves as the Bishop of I Reign Christian Ministry, guilty of the first count of rape leveled against him by the Lagos State Government.
Oshodi concluded that the prosecution successfully established the essential elements of the offense. He also remarked on Daniels’ lack of credibility and disregard for the truth during the proceedings.
However, the judge acquitted Daniels of the second count of rape, which involved another member of the church (identity withheld). Oshodi determined that there was evidence of consent from the church member.
The judgment was ongoing at the time of this report, and Daniels faced an amended four-count charge related to rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault.
