In a recent development, the Ikeja Special Offences Court has granted a bail of 50 million naira to the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele. Emefiele faces a 26-count charge related to alleged abuse of office and fraud amounting to $4.5 billion and ₦2.8 billion, as reported by Naija News.
Justice Rahman Oshodi, in his bail ruling on Friday, approved Emefiele’s bail with two sureties in the same amount. The judge stipulated that the sureties must be employed and have a three-year history of tax payment to the Lagos State Government. Additionally, they must provide proper identification and be registered in the Lagos State Bail Management System.
Justice Oshodi noted his satisfaction with the bail conditions previously granted to Emefiele’s co-defendant, Henry Isioma-Omoil, in another case before Justice Olufunke Sule-Hamzat of Yaba High Court. However, he specified that the bail documents should be transferred to the special offences court and registered in the Lagos State Bail Management System.
