A court sitting in Yenagoa has put a temporary stop to a planned rally meant to show support for FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
The gathering, organized by the group known as NEW Associates, was set to happen on April 12, 2025, in Bayelsa’s capital. But a recent court order has now paused those plans — at least for now.
The order was issued by Justice I.A. Uzakah after the Attorney General of Bayelsa State, Biriyai Dambo (SAN), filed a Motion Ex-Parte. The ruling names George Turnah, said to be the rally’s main convener, as well as Minister Wike, as the key respondents.
Also included in the suit are the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police, and Bayelsa’s Commissioner of Police.
According to the order, both Wike and Turnah — along with their supporters or anyone acting on their behalf — are barred from holding any kind of political event or gathering in the state, at least until the next court session.
The case has been adjourned to April 11, 2025, when the court will take up the Motion on Notice for a longer-term decision.
