Rotimi Faces Charges for Illicit Drug Sales
A Federal High Court in Lagos has rescheduled the re-arraignment of Yomi Rotimi, who is charged with trafficking 500 grams of Cannabis Sativa, to October 9. Justice Kehinde Ogundare set the new date after Rotimi failed to appear in court on Monday.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has accused Rotimi of illicit drug sales. Initially, he was arraigned before Justice Tijani Ringim, who has since been transferred. The case has now been reassigned to Justice Ogundare.
During Monday’s session, NDLEA representative J. O. Negedu appeared in court, but no defense counsel was present. Negedu informed the court that a hearing notice had been served to Rotimi. She requested a new date for the re-arraignment due to Rotimi’s absence, which the court granted.
According to the NDLEA, Rotimi committed the offense on December 14, 2019, in Ejigbo, Lagos State. He is accused of selling 500 grams of Cannabis Sativa without legal authorization, violating Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act of 2004. The case will continue on October 9.
