Popular Nigerian socialite, Obi Iyiegbu, widely known as Obi Cubana, recently shared his thoughts on wealth and its impact across generations.
In his observation, he noted that the children of today’s poor are increasingly acquiring the properties of the once wealthy. According to him, the fortunes accumulated by rich men are often squandered by their descendants after their passing.
Cubana urged people to balance wealth accumulation with the enjoyment of life, warning against the tendency to focus solely on amassing riches without taking time to savor them. He also highlighted the shift where the children of the rich are now serving the children of those who were once poor but have since risen to wealth.
On Instagram, he wrote:
“Read with an open mind….
“Today, the children of yesterday’s rich are serving the children of yesterday’s poor…..
“The children of yesterday’s poor are busy buying out the properties of the once-rich, from the children who inherited them! It’s the cycle of life!!!
“Interestingly, many of the wealthy never enjoyed the luxury of the riches they accumulated during their lifetime!
“Our people have a saying ‘ọlu ụnọ na-amuta ole ụnọ’ which means ‘the builder/acquirer begets a seller-son…..’
“Final thought: While you work hard to acquire wealth, make sure to take time to enjoy the fruits of your labor!
“Most importantly, may your accumulated wealth benefit humanity and not cause pain and oppression….
“Time is ticking, and nothing lasts forever……SELAH!”
