Beckham and Neville Take Bigger Strides with Salford City
Longtime friends and former Manchester United stars David Beckham and Gary Neville have officially taken charge of Salford City, a club they’ve loved for years.
The two joined forces with American businessman Declan Kelly and Mervyn Davies—head of Britain’s Lawn Tennis Association—to lead the new ownership of the League Two side.
While Beckham and Neville were already involved with the club through a group of fellow ex-United players—Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, and Phil Neville—this new setup marks a shift. Butt, Giggs, Scholes, and Phil Neville will no longer hold shares, but they’re not stepping away entirely. They’ll continue to support the club in active roles, bringing their experience and football minds to the table.
Gary Neville spoke about the road ahead, saying he’s fully focused on football and making sure the club runs in a way that’s built to last. “I’m really excited about this next phase,” he said, looking ahead to the next four or five years.
David Beckham, who’s already involved in the sport through his role with Inter Miami in the U.S., shared his thoughts as well. “This club means something to the people here,” he said. “It’s deeply rooted in the community, and I’m proud to help shape its future.”
