Davido, DJ Lambo, Cohbams Asuquo, and others won accolades in various categories at the seventh annual Beatz Awards, which took place at the Muson Centre in Lagos on Saturday.
The Big Brother Naija star Aderombi Adedayo, also known as “Dee-One,” and the Ghanaian female rapper “Phronesis” entertained the audience while hosting the evening.
Davido, a prominent rapper, took home the prize for best songwriter. For the second consecutive year, Chocolate City’s Olawunmi Okerayi, aka DJ Lambo, was named the female DJ of the year, and Blaise Beat was named the producer of the year. Silver bird Television and MTV Base shared the best award for entertainment television station of the year.
Samuel Giveson, also known as SMJ, a drummer and multi-instrumentalist with Rox Nation who was born in Lagos, won the title of Afro Gospel Producer of the Year.
Bella Naija, an African lifestyle, entertainment, and fashion website started by Uche Eze, won the award for Best Blog of the Year, while Pedroa Bandhit won the award for Best Life Band.
Other awards included TG Omoris for Best Music Director, Sean Okeke for Best Artiste Manager of the Year, and Tosan Wilshare for Best On-Air Personality.
The Best Music Streaming Platform prize went to Boomplay, the Best Record Label went to YBNL, and the Best Mixing and Mastering Engineer went to VTek.
Cobhams Asuquo, a music producer, received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Elijah John, the Chief Executive Officer of the Beatz Awards, had earlier stated that the event’s goal was to honor and recognize the remarkable contributions made by the innovators in the music industry’s business, distribution, and production sectors.
John noted that the Beats Awards were a Nigerian music awards program that had its debut on November 15, 2015, and he thanked sponsors for their support.
“We must acknowledge the talents of the people who work behind the scenes to make things happen.
Even though they work in the background, John added, “We want to educate the public about how lucrative the sector is and how they may capitalize on the potential.”
The recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, Asuquo, observed, “When you start earning this recognition, it just serves as a gentle reminder that you are growing older.
He thanked his crew for their years of unwavering work and dedicated the prize to them all.
A variety of music artists, including comedian Kenny Blaq, who took the stage and enthralled the audience with his melodic tunes, provided guests with outstanding entertainment.
