The Osun State Government has officially named Nigerian music sensation David Adeleke, better known as Davido, as the chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund.
The announcement was made by Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, who explained that the appointment is part of the state’s renewed push to strengthen sports development and funding.
According to the government, Davido’s influence and global reach are expected to draw both local and international support to boost sports growth across the state.
Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration also reaffirmed its commitment to revamping sporting facilities, including the ongoing transformation of the Osogbo Township Stadium, which is being upgraded to meet Olympic standards.
Adewusi further revealed that plans are in progress to establish the Osun State Sports Commission — a central body that will oversee sports administration, policy, and development.
He explained that the Sports Trust Fund, now under Davido’s leadership, is designed to ensure steady funding and long-term progress for athletes and sporting infrastructure.
In his words:
“The renovation of the Osogbo Township Stadium is nearing completion and will soon meet Olympic standards. We are also finalizing plans for the Osun State Sports Commission to serve as the hub for all sports activities and policies.
“Davido has accepted to chair the Sports Trust Fund, and his involvement is expected to attract financial support that will positively transform sports in Osun State.”
Davido’s appointment has been met with excitement from fans and residents alike, many of whom believe his passion for youth empowerment and global influence will bring fresh energy to sports development in the state.
