The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially withdrawn the arrest warrant issued against Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, the manager of renowned gospel artist Mercy Chinwo.
Last week, Justice Alexander Owoeye had granted the EFCC’s application for a bench warrant against Onyedikachukwu. However, in a twist on Friday, the EFCC’s legal representative, Bilikisu Buhari, requested the court to retract the warrant, which was promptly approved.
Earlier, the Federal High Court in Lagos had ordered the arrest following a motion by the EFCC. The commission argued that Onyedikachukwu’s appearance in court was necessary to address allegations of financial misconduct.
The situation stemmed from a petition filed by Mercy Chinwo, who accused her manager of withholding royalties from digital platforms and live events. The EFCC investigator, Michael Idoko, disclosed that Chinwo alleged Onyedikachukwu had misappropriated $345,000, leading her to seek legal intervention.
Justice Owoeye initially set January 24 as the date for Onyedikachukwu’s arraignment. However, with the withdrawal of the warrant, the case has taken a new turn, leaving room for further developments.
