Stunning pomp and circumstance! Emily Ratajkowski donned a purple cap and gown to deliver an inspiring and moving commencement speech to Hunter College’s graduating class.
The Gone Girl actress spoke to students at a public university in New York City about the importance of appreciating their worth and the value they bring to the lives of those around them.
She also reflected on her own decision to leave college early to pursue a modeling career, despite the fact that it meant foregoing one of her biggest dreams.
“I was never able to attend my own college graduation. After the 2008 economic collapse, I dropped out, preferring the financial security I hoped modeling would provide over what I really wanted to do, which was to learn and make things “Ratajkowski reminisced. “I was terrified of incurring student loan debt.”
“I also knew that my time for this opportunity was running out. Everyone reminded me that women have a shelf life “She went on to say. “As a result, I abandoned my education in favor of focusing on work.”

However, Ratajkowski advises those who have reached the monumental milestone of graduation to remember to celebrate their achievements.
“If you can’t celebrate yourself, perhaps do it for others — for the friends and family who greeted you after a long day; who listened to you complain about your workload and schedule; who encouraged you through stress and hopelessness,” she explained. “The people in your life who love you are a precious gift; treat, enjoy, and celebrate with them as such.”
Ratajkowski took to Instagram to share excerpts from her speech, as well as a photo of herself with Hunter College’s mascot, Hunter Hawk.
“MANY CONGRATS TO THE CLASS OF ’23! What a privilege! Thank you so much for having me today, President Raab and Hunter College “She titled the post.
