Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has mourned the passing of the Emir of Gusau, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, who died at 71 on Friday morning in Abuja after a long illness.
In a heartfelt tribute, Governor Lawal described the late Emir as more than just a traditional leader — he was a trusted adviser, a voice of reason, and a father figure whose presence deeply influenced the state’s leadership and people.
“I received the news of His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello’s passing with heavy sorrow,” the governor shared. “This loss is deeply personal. He was a pillar of strength and wisdom to many of us.”
Lawal extended his condolences to the Gusau Emirate, the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, the monarch’s family, and the entire people of Zamfara, acknowledging the profound impact the Emir had across the state and beyond.
The late Emir, who ascended the throne on March 16, 2015, served as the 15th Emir of Gusau. His decade-long reign was marked by a commitment to peace, development, and service to his people.
Before taking on his royal duties, Dr. Ibrahim Bello had a long and respected career in public service, rising to the role of Permanent Secretary in both the former Sokoto State and Zamfara.
Reflecting on the loss, Governor Lawal added, “He was a source of guidance and support not only to me but to many leaders across the state. His counsel was priceless. I pray that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings and grants him eternal rest in Aljannah Firdaus.”
