Protesters at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos have dispersed after security forces used tear gas to break up the demonstration. The area was under heavy surveillance, with officers from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, and other units stationed around the toll gate.
Security personnel had directed the protesters to move to designated protest areas. When they refused, the police deployed tear gas to disperse the crowd.
This action comes after a Lagos State High Court ruling on Tuesday that limited protests to specific locations within the state. Justice Emmanuel Ogundare granted an ex parte application from Lagos State Attorney-General Lawal Pedro (SAN), mandating that demonstrations be restricted to Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota and Peace Park in Ketu.
