Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has officially announced his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor made the announcement during a statewide broadcast, explaining that the decision was made after careful consideration to better align Enugu with the federal government and ensure stronger development ties.
“There comes a time when every leader must make a defining choice for the future. After deep reflection, we have decided to leave the Peoples Democratic Party and join the All Progressives Congress,” Mbah declared.
He expressed appreciation to the PDP for its years of support, acknowledging the platform it provided for his political rise. However, he emphasized that leadership often requires difficult decisions for the greater good.
“To the PDP, I extend my heartfelt gratitude. The party stood by us through challenging times and celebrated our victories. Yet, leadership demands bold steps toward a greater purpose,” he said.
Governor Mbah explained that joining the APC would create new opportunities for collaboration and accelerate Enugu State’s progress. He also praised President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and noted the federal government’s continued support for the state.
Mbah’s move to the ruling party comes alongside members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, and councillors who have also joined the APC.
His defection follows similar moves by other governors, including those from Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa States, who recently aligned their administrations with the ruling party to foster unity and growth across the region.
