Nigerian musician KCee recently took to social media to respond passionately after fellow artist Flavour shared a post that many fans interpreted as a dig. Known by his real name, Kingsley Okonkwo, KCee addressed comments from Flavour, born Chinedu Okoli, who had hinted at an alleged imitation in KCee’s latest release.
Flavour’s subtle remark, “Copy copy akaria,” appeared on his X account shortly after KCee unveiled his new track “Netfliss,” with visuals that sparked comparisons to Flavour’s song “Doings,” which features rapper Phyno. Although Flavour did not mention names, KCee responded in a strong tone, sharing his stance publicly.
The “Ojapiano” singer asserted that he and Flavour are on different paths and urged Flavour to avoid attempting to control Igbo cultural representation. KCee made it clear that he’s been active in the industry long before and emphasized his right to celebrate Igbo culture freely, claiming, “You’re not the gatekeeper of Igbo music—this genre belongs to us all.”
He continued, “Authenticity speaks for itself. I’ll keep honoring our heritage without apology. My journey has been built on effort and dedication, and no one can undermine that. I’ve worked too hard to let anyone dismiss my achievements.”
KCee’s message resonated with fans, who took to social media to weigh in on the lively exchange, showcasing the spirit and pride of Nigerian highlife music.
