Scottish boxer won his first 33 fights and becomes WBA lightweight champion in 1970
Ken Buchanan, a former lightweight champion from Scotland, died at the age of 77, according to his foundation.
“It is with great sadness that we must inform you that Ken Buchanan died peacefully in his sleep this morning,” the statement said.
In 1970, the boxer won his first 33 fights and was crowned World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight champion.
“RIP Ken, always a gentleman and one of the best champions we will ever see,” wrote the foundation on Facebook.
Buchanan, who was born in Edinburgh and retired in 1982, finished his career with a 61-8 record.
He was afflicted with dementia.
