54-year-old to coach the French women’s team until August 2024
Herve Renard was named head coach of the French Women’s National Football Team on Thursday.
The French Football Federation said in a statement that they are “pleased” to announce Renard’s appointment and that his contract will run until August 2024.
Renard, 54, will captain Les Bleues for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will be held in Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20, as well as the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, which will be held from July 26 to August 11.
Renard stepped down as head coach of the Saudi national football team on Wednesday.
The Saudi Arabia team led by Renard stunned the world by defeating Argentina’s Lionel Messi-led team 2-1 in the group stage of the 2022 men’s World Cup in Qatar. Argentina went on to win the tournament.
Renard has two Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) titles, one with Zambia in 2012 and another with Ivory Coast in 2015.
He coached French Ligue 1 club Lille for a short time before moving to Morocco in the 2015-16 season.
