Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has appointed Professor Isaac Zeb-Obipi as the new Vice Chancellor of Rivers State University (RSU) in Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt.
The announcement came through an official statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
Professor Zeb-Obipi takes over from Professor Nlerum Okogbule, who held the position since March 5, 2020, under the appointment of former Governor Nyesom Wike.
With a strong background in Organisational Behaviour and Human Resource Management, Professor Zeb-Obipi previously led the university’s Information and Communication Technology Centre before assuming this new leadership role.
Meanwhile, outgoing Vice-Chancellor Professor Okogbule expressed appreciation to Governor Fubara for ensuring a smooth completion of his tenure without political interference.
During a special lecture held in his honor at the university’s Senate Chamber, themed ‘Starting Strong and Finishing Well,’ he reflected on his five-year journey, acknowledging both former Governor Wike for his initial appointment and Governor Fubara for maintaining continuity in leadership.
“The governor upheld a principle rarely seen in Nigerian politics by allowing me to complete my tenure without interference. For this, I remain deeply grateful,” Okogbule remarked.
His words highlighted the significance of stability in academic leadership, emphasizing its role in fostering institutional growth and development.
