Joe Johnson, the Rivers State Commissioner for Information, has officially confirmed the resignation of Chidi Amadi, who held the position of Chief of Staff to Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
According to the Commissioner, Amadi stepped down from his role around the same time several cabinet members submitted their resignation letters in December 2023. However, the specific reasons cited by Amadi for his resignation were not disclosed.
Before assuming the role of Chief of Staff last year, Amadi served as the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ohio/Akpor Local Government Area, the hometown of the former governor Nyesom Wike.
Speculations arise that Amadi’s resignation may be linked to the political tensions between Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The dynamics of this political faceoff could provide further insight into Amadi’s decision to step down from his position.
