G Herbo remains dedicated to giving back to his community. Swervin’ Through Stress, the Chicago rapper’s nonprofit organization focused on mental health awareness in the African American community was announced today (May 17).
New activations will begin this Saturday (May 20), with the first being a Black Joy Ride event in collaboration with SocialWorks. The ride will begin and end at Chicago’s Harold Washington Cultural Center, where attendees will also be able to enjoy various local wellness brand pop-ups.
“Our community doesn’t talk about mental health enough,” G Herbo said in an interview with Billboard. “I really wanted to create a space where it’s OK for us to talk about what we’re going through with Swervin’ Through Stress.” A lot of us can relate to each other’s struggles.”
According to the organization’s official website, “Swervin’ Through Stress will cover the cost of sessions for Black youth ages 18-25 seeking therapy for three months.” We want to increase Black young adults’ access to and utilization of mental health services, as well as de-stigmatize cultural narratives about therapy among Black people. We are dedicated to connecting Black young adults with therapeutic resources that will inform and improve their mental health in order to achieve a higher quality of life.”
Swervin’ Through Stress is currently accepting donations.
The “PTSD” rapper’s most recent album, Strictly For My Fans 2, was released last month. Herbo released his highly anticipated two-part Survivor’s Remorse album in November 2022.
