Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhães is set to miss the rest of the season after the club announced he’ll need surgery on his hamstring. The news comes after Gabriel, 27, was forced off the pitch during Arsenal’s 2-1 win against Fulham at the Emirates Stadium.
Since his arrival from Lille, Gabriel has become a key player in Arsenal’s defense, making 28 starts in 30 league games this season. His consistency at the back has been crucial in helping the team maintain the league’s best defensive record, conceding just 25 goals so far.
The club released a statement confirming that Gabriel will undergo surgery soon, saying, “Gabi will undergo a surgical repair procedure to his hamstring in the coming days and immediately begin his recovery and rehabilitation to be ready for the start of next season.”
This injury is a tough blow for the Gunners, who are currently second in the league, trailing Liverpool by 12 points with only eight matches to go. The challenge doesn’t end there, as Arsenal is also gearing up to face Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals. The first leg is set to take place at the Emirates on April 8, followed by the return leg at the Bernabeu on April 16.
