Joseph Painstil, a winger from Ghana, responded to being passed over for the Black Stars by scoring and winning Player of the Match honors for KRC Genk on Sunday in the Belgian league.
As Genk overcame Union Saint-Gilloise on the road to climb into second place on the standings, the 24-year-old scored the game’s first goal.
In the 37th minute, Painstil was substituted after displaying signs of discomfort following a knock.
The pacy winger received the Man of the Match award on Sunday even though he played less than 40 minutes of the game.
Loic Lapoussin’s goal for Union Saint-Gilloise with 15 minutes left brought the score even, but Mbwana Samatta’s goal for Genk with the game’s final kick gave Genk the victory.
Even though the former Tema Youth striker has four goals in eight games for Genk this season, he was left off coach Otto Addo’s side for the upcoming international friendly despite his strong run of play.
