Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State announced on Thursday that all state-owned bank accounts are frozen, effective immediately. He instructed all commercial banks, as well as leaders of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), to follow this directive without delay.
Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, issued the statement, stressing that any individual, including MDA heads or civil servants, who disobeys this order will face serious consequences.
The Governor’s directive ensures that no funds are to be withdrawn from state accounts until further notice, pending a thorough review and reconciliation of finances.
In addition, Governor Okpebholo directed that the Ministry of Roads and Bridges revert to its former name, the Ministry of Works. The original name change, introduced during Godwin Obaseki’s administration, was deemed inappropriate by the Governor, as Obaseki’s administration had not constructed any new roads or bridges.
“It’s ironic to call it the Ministry of Roads and Bridges when no bridges were actually built. Even a simple pedestrian bridge wasn’t added,” the Governor remarked. He assured that further actions would be taken to review and address decisions made by the previous administration in the best interests of Edo State.
