Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has sadly lost his elder brother, Engineer Sunday Makinde.
The 65-year-old passed away in the early hours of Friday, January 24, 2025, as confirmed by the family.
In a statement, Chief Olumuyiwa Makinde, the Bada Olubadan of Ibadanland and head of the Aigbofa Family of Oja’ba, Ibadan, shared the news:
“With a heavy heart, I announce the passing of my elder brother, Engr. Sunday Makinde, to eternal glory today, Friday, January 24, 2025. He passed away at his residence in Ibadan at 3:20 am.”
Engr. Sunday Makinde is survived by his siblings, including Governor Seyi Makinde, along with his children and grandchildren. As of now, the Governor has not issued an official statement.
In a separate development, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Nentawe Yilwatda, has expressed sorrow over the death of General Jeremiah Useni, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
Paying tribute to the late General, Yilwatda described him as a true patriot and a remarkable leader. In his statement, he said:
“It is with deep sadness that I extend my condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of General Jeremiah Useni, a leader whose contributions left a lasting impact on Plateau State and Nigeria. His commitment to peace and progress will be remembered for generations.”
Yilwatda highlighted the late General’s legacy as a soldier, parliamentarian, and public servant, emphasizing the positive influence he had on countless lives.
“As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life dedicated to service, resilience, and the greater good,” the Minister concluded.
Both losses mark somber moments for their respective families and communities.
