Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has appointed Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi as the new Emir of Kano. The announcement was made on Thursday after the governor signed the new emirate council law at the Government House in Kano.
Earlier in the day, Governor Yusuf held a closed-door meeting with Kano kingmakers and lawmakers, including the Speaker, Jibrin Falgore. Following the meeting, Yusuf signed the law at 5:10 PM, accompanied by his deputy, the State Assembly Speaker, and other principal government officers.
The state House of Assembly had passed a bill earlier on Thursday to dissolve the four additional emirates created by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s administration and to remove all five emirs. The Kano State Emirates Council (Amendment No.2) Law, 2024, effectively abolished the five-emirate system and the first-class emirates in Gaya, Rano, Karaye, and Bichi.
