In a separate development, the Directorate of Citizens Rights (DCR) from the Ministry of Justice in Ekiti State has taken legal action on behalf of Damilola Adeparusi, popularly known as Chef Dammy, against her pastor, Jeremiah Adegoke, and the Ekiti State Police Command for alleged violation of her rights.
The DCR is also seeking a compensation of 10 million for damages on behalf of the chef, who gained fame after attempting the cook-a-thon challenge in June to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking hours.
Jeremiah Adegoke, the head pastor of Spirit Word Global Mission, reportedly sponsored Chef Dammy during the cooking competition.
In the lawsuit filed by DCR on November 24th, Chef Dammy is listed as the applicant, while Adegoke, Ajewole Samuel (the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police), and the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 17 Akure, are named as respondents.
The lawsuit aims to assert that the ongoing harassment, molestation, threat of arrest, and intimidation by the pastor and the Nigerian police infringe on the chef’s fundamental human rights.
