Kenzy Udosen Opens Up on How His Childhood Sparked the Birth of ‘Madam Teresa’
Kenzy Udosen, the comedic force behind the beloved online character “Madam Teresa,” has shared how his upbringing inspired the viral persona that’s won hearts across social media.
Appearing on The Morning Brief with Channels Television, the content creator took viewers behind the curtain of his skits, reflecting on the deep personal roots that shape his work.
“Losing my dad early meant I grew up in a house full of women,” he said. “My mom, my four sisters, my aunt—just me and all these strong female voices. Naturally, I picked up on their mannerisms, their quirks. That influence stuck with me.”
Kenzy initially pursued presenting during his school years but couldn’t quite find the momentum. Then came the rise of social media—and with it, new possibilities.
He recalled being inspired by early online pioneers like Maraji, Josh2Funny, and Craze Clown. “They were doing something fresh, funny, relatable. And that’s when I decided to tap into my own story, and Madam Teresa came to life.”
But comedy wasn’t his first love. “I started off trying to be an opera singer,” he laughed, “because I was so taken with Josh Stefani’s style. But it didn’t quite land. Eventually, I shifted toward the ‘Ndumodu’ series—simple, conversational videos where I dish out life advice in a character’s voice. That’s how everything started.”
In 2024, Udosen expanded his content into fashion critique, but with his own twist. “I felt stuck, uninspired. So I left Lagos, went to Owerri, and just reconnected with my roots. Then Priscy Ojo’s wedding happened, and it hit me—why not give fashion reviews through the lens of an Igbo mother with a sharp tongue? That’s how the whole review series began.”
Now known for both comedy and commentary, Kenzy is part of a generation of creators who have redefined entertainment in Nigeria—especially after the pandemic pushed people online in record numbers.
From Instagram to TikTok, content creators like Kenzy continue to educate, entertain, and bring laughter into the daily lives of millions.
And for Kenzy? He’s just getting started.
