Months after the release of “The Little Mermaid,” Halle Bailey is gearing up for her next big endeavors. The musician is currently getting ready for the launch of her first solo EP and a prominent role in Blitz Bazawule’s highly anticipated adaptation of “The Color Purple.”
Recently, on September 5th, she graced the cover of Cosmopolitan’s latest issue and discussed a wide range of topics, including her new music, relationships, and acting.
Transitioning from a youthful sensation to an established artist isn’t always a seamless journey, especially when the public feels intimately connected to the artist’s narrative. Halle and her sister, Chlöe Bailey, rose to fame after a video of them covering Beyoncé’s “Pretty Hurts” went viral in 2013.
Acknowledging her journey, Halle stated, “People have watched me grow up. While it’s comforting to know you have that kind of support, it can also be stifling when everyone feels they can comment on your life.”
You thought @HalleBailey was done? Yeah, she did the whole mermaid thing. And reached a new level of stardom while she was at it. But the really exciting stuff starts now—and she’s ready to talk about it. Read her cover story here: https://t.co/VTVBQuOK9o 💚 pic.twitter.com/GsLyQIpbxy

Halle’s romantic relationship with rapper DDG has also faced intense public scrutiny. Earlier this year, rumors of her pregnancy and DDG’s song “Famous” triggered controversy and backlash. Although the track didn’t directly reference Halle, fans accused DDG of potentially hindering her acting career.
Speaking about her newfound love, Halle shared, “Love has been a significant aspect of my life because it’s something I’m experiencing for the first time, and it’s like a ‘whoa’ in your brain. It’s just fireworks, a spark for creativity. You know, you have puppy love experiences, you think that’s love. But this is my first deep, deep, real love.”
Halle also discussed her creative process, saying, “I don’t usually delve into my personal life, but I can share where my creativity is coming from. This has been a profoundly transformative period for me. I have all this new material to draw from. It’s like, ‘What did I just experience and go through?’ A whirlwind of amazingness.”
Describing her music, she added, “Sound-wise, it’s a bit modern R&B-ish, with all the jazz elements and hints of pop that I love.”
Regarding her eagerly awaited solo debut EP, Halle revealed, “Definitely before the end of the year.” In August, she released her debut single as a lead artist titled “Angel,” which was accompanied by a music video that garnered over 10 million views on YouTube.
