Harvey Weinstein Found Guilty of Sexual Assault in Retrial, Rape Charge Still Pending
Harvey Weinstein, once one of the most powerful figures in Hollywood, has been found guilty of sexually assaulting former production assistant Miriam Haley in a retrial held in Manhattan. However, jurors cleared him of other charges and remain undecided on a key rape allegation.
The retrial centered on accusations from three women: Miriam Haley, actress Jessica Mann, and former model Kaja Sokola. While the jury unanimously found Weinstein guilty in Haley’s case, he was acquitted of the new charges brought by Sokola and cleared of rape allegations involving Mann—for now.
The courtroom was tense as the verdicts came in. The jury foreman delivered a single word—“Guilty”—on the Haley count. When it came to the other charges, he replied “Not guilty,” prompting a muted shake of the head from Weinstein, who sat in a wheelchair, dressed in a dark suit, watching the outcome unfold without visible emotion.
As he was wheeled out, the 73-year-old was heard muttering, “Not true.”
The judge has placed a gag order on both legal teams while the jury continues to deliberate on the unresolved rape charge involving Mann.
For Haley, the ruling marks a hard-won moment of justice. Her case was central to Weinstein’s initial conviction in 2020, which helped fuel the global reckoning known as the #MeToo movement. That conviction, however, was overturned last year due to procedural missteps, necessitating this new trial.
Weinstein’s downfall began in 2017, when an avalanche of allegations from women across the entertainment industry exposed years of abuse and manipulation. What followed was a seismic shift in public dialogue about power, consent, and accountability.
In total, more than 80 women have publicly accused him of misconduct.
The current verdict is another chapter in a case that not only changed the life of a once-revered producer but also forced a long-overdue conversation in Hollywood and beyond.
