President William Ruto of Kenya has defended the country’s decision to import genetically modified (GM) food, assuring Kenyans that it is safe.
The president chastised those who opposed lifting the ban on such products, claiming that as a scientist, he was confident that genetically modified foods were safe.
He admitted to eating genetically modified foods. “Have I grown breasts?” he posed, adding, “we must tell “the truth, let’s stop propaganda”.
“The entire country of South Africa is 100% GMO… the United States and other countries are 100% GMO. “Have you heard of anyone developing horns as a result of consuming GMOs?”
He asserted that the GM technology will aid in addressing the issue of food shortages, claiming that the fact that people were still going to bed hungry decades after independence was a “huge reflection on us as leaders.”
The president was giving his first significant televised media briefing while addressing reporters at the State House.
