Davido Talks Hushpuppi, Friendship, and the Harsh Realities Back Home
In a recent sit-down chat, music star Davido opened up about someone many didn’t expect to hear him talk about—Ramon Abbas, widely known as Hushpuppi.
The conversation took a reflective turn when Davido was asked about the flamboyant socialite, who’s currently behind bars in the United States. The Afrobeats hitmaker didn’t shy away. He admitted they crossed paths often and shared a casual friendship, though he claimed he had no clue what was going on behind the scenes.
“Yeah, Hush was my guy,” Davido said with a quiet honesty. “I saw him around. But I didn’t really know what he was into.”
Then he added something that struck a deeper chord: “He’s coming out soon. He lived. But is it worth it? Personally, I don’t think so. Still, I understand why some people choose that path.”
Davido didn’t condone fraud—but he also didn’t ignore the larger picture. He spoke candidly about the kind of struggle that pushes people to chase fast money, just to escape a cycle of poverty.
“There’s a kind of suffering in Nigeria that will make someone say, ‘Let me enjoy for just two years. After that, I’m okay,’” he said. “Some folks would rather burn bright for a short time than live in pain for a lifetime.”
He wrapped up the conversation with a note of compassion: “I still send prayers his way. It’s a tough story all around.”
Davido’s words didn’t glamorize wrongdoing. Instead, they revealed the complicated choices people make when the odds are stacked high—and the humanity behind those choices.
