Nearly two months after the British actor declared he would, Henry Cavill has decided not to return as “Superman.” Cavill said on social media that he would not reprise his role as “Man of Steel” after meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran, co-presidents of DC Studios.
This news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life, he tweeted on Wednesday. “The studio told me to announce my comeback back in October, prior to their recruitment. “There is a guard change that takes place. I value that.”
“A universe needs to be created by James and Peter. I wish them the greatest of luck and the happiest of fortunes, as well as everyone engaged with the new world “he added.

Cavill announced on Oct. 24 that he would reprise his role as Superman after appearing in “Black Adam” as the superhero. Days later, Cavill announced his departure from his role as Geralt of Rivia in the popular Netflix series “The Witcher.” However, Gunn announced on Wednesday that the studio’s future Superman projects would take a different path.

“Our story will initially focus on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill,” Gunn tweeted. “But we just had a great meeting with Henry, and we’re big fans, and we discussed a number of exciting possibilities for future collaboration.”
Cavill, who portrayed Superman in several films, including “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Justice League,” reflected on his time on the big screen.
“For those who have stood by my side over the years…..we can grieve a little, but then we must remember. Superman is still around,” he wrote on Wednesday. “Everything he stands for is still there, as are the examples he sets for us! My turn to don the cape has come and gone, but what Superman stands for will never change. Onwards and upwards, it’s been a fun ride with you all.”
