Afrobeats star Davido, officially known as David Adeleke, recently opened up about his journey in music after finishing his studies, crediting his success to the choices he made post-graduation. Speaking at the 2024 LAS Annual Summit, Davido shared personal insights on navigating life after school.
Reflecting on his path, Davido explained that he paused his studies at Babcock University to focus on music—a decision that ultimately defined his career. “This topic hits home for me because I’m an example of someone who found success after school. I took a leap into entertainment, while my family and siblings followed more traditional paths,” he said.
Davido explained that, while his family valued education and a traditional career path, they allowed him to pursue his passion. “In my family, you’re expected to finish school and go straight to work, either with my dad or elsewhere. But I was the one who chose a different path,” he shared.
The singer also highlighted that success arrives at different times for everyone, pointing to friends and siblings who either rose quickly in their careers or took time to build their success. “Some people find success fast; others build it gradually. I was fortunate to follow my dreams, even though it meant taking a break from school,” he added.
Davido’s story stands as a testament to following one’s passion and finding success in unique ways.
