Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has strongly denied rumors suggesting he is the father of former Big Brother Naija housemate, Nengi Rebecca Hampson’s pregnancy. He has attributed these allegations to political opponents seeking to damage his reputation.
The rumors gained momentum after a popular blogging platform claimed that Governor Diri was involved in Nengi’s pregnancy. However, Nengi swiftly dismissed these claims on her social media accounts, further clarifying that they were false.
Reacting to the accusations, Governor Diri expressed both shock and disappointment, especially as the rumors surfaced on the same day his administration was celebrating its 5th anniversary in office. His Director of New Media, Dr. Kola Oredipe, also responded publicly, labeling the allegations as unfounded.
Oredipe stated, “Nengi Rebecca Hampson has no personal relationship with Governor Diri. It is unfortunate that those behind these false stories are trying to undermine the Governor’s growing political influence.”
He also condemned the spread of misinformation, emphasizing that such baseless stories were distractions aimed at detracting from the administration’s accomplishments.
“This is a deliberate distraction, and it’s clear why there are calls to regulate certain social media platforms,” Oredipe continued. “While we were inaugurating a significant new road in Yenagoa, these falsehoods were being spread by online agitators.”
Oredipe concluded by reaffirming that Governor Diri is a man of integrity and honor, and he reiterated that the allegations were politically driven and lacked any factual foundation.
