Tiwa Savage has opened up about the emotional story behind one of her tattoos, revealing that it was born out of heartbreak.
In a recent chat with media personality Katy Igwe, the award-winning singer shared that she flew in her tattoo artist from Los Angeles to Lagos, choosing to get inked in the privacy of her home. For her, the tattoo wasn’t just about body art—it was a way to process deep pain without being in a public space.
“I wanted to be comfortable while going through that pain,” she explained. “In a tattoo parlour, there are so many people around, and I didn’t want to break down in front of strangers. Doing it in my room felt safer.”
Tiwa recalled how intense the session was, describing it as bloody and emotional. Her artist, shocked by the sight, kept asking what she was trying to put herself through.
For the singer, the tattoo became a powerful outlet during what she described as one of the hardest times of her life. Reflecting on the past two years, she admitted her former relationship was “crazy,” but expressed relief and gratitude that she has now moved on.
“It came from heartbreak,” she said. “I just wanted to do something to scream. But I’m so happy I’m out of that relationship now.”
