Nollywood actress Sarah Martins recently opened up about a past relationship, sharing how she once gave half of her salary to an ex-boyfriend who was unfaithful. In response to designer Veekee James’s similar experience, Sarah took to Instagram to highlight the struggles independent women often face in relationships.
Sarah explained that while she believes in supporting a partner, she now thinks that support should be mutual and that her partner should have given her something in return first. Recounting her story, she revealed that she provided her ex-boyfriend with 50% of her monthly earnings for six months, only to later find out he was using the money to support another woman’s business. Ironically, this other woman ended up marrying someone else.
Reflecting on the experience, Sarah wrote, “After listening to Veekee’s story, all I can say is stop overplaying your role in a relationship. Independent women go through a lot, and now you see why some of us have turned into ‘gold diggers.’ I’m a loving person, and I give my all, but after what I went through, I no longer hand out money to any man!”
She added that while she’ll still support her partner in the future, it will only be for someone who’s already invested in her well-being.
