Ghanaian artist Camidoh, a nominee for a BET award, openly shared his struggles with mental health, particularly following two serious road accidents this year. Emphasizing the importance of maintaining mental well-being, he discussed the challenges he faced and the impact on his work. “I was almost getting over my PTSD, and recently I got involved in two major road accidents that really became very traumatic for me. So I had to take my therapy sessions more seriously; now I do two in a week,” he revealed.
Describing the difficulties he encountered as a creative facing setbacks, Camidoh shared his experiences on TV3 Newday. The ‘Sugarcane’ hitmaker also called attention to the financial challenges in the industry and urged for more support. He highlighted the pressure on Ghanaian creatives to match their Nigerian counterparts, emphasizing the need for proper funding.
“It’s really tough in Ghana as a creative; we do not have the right funding to support us. There is a lot of pressure on Ghanaian creatives because of what is happening in Nigeria, but they have the funding,” he expressed. Camidoh stressed the importance of financial backing for the Ghanaian creative industry, aiming for increased support to enable artists to flourish and make substantial contributions to the country’s GDP.
