President Tinubu Congratulates Keir Starmer on UK Election Victory
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Sir Keir Starmer, leader of the Labour Party, following their victory in the United Kingdom general election. This win positions Starmer to become the next Prime Minister.
The Labour Party secured the required 326 parliamentary seats to be declared the official winner. Former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak acknowledged the Conservative Party’s defeat and resigned, taking responsibility for the loss.
In a statement released on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu praised Starmer’s determination and leadership throughout his tenure in opposition and as Labour leader. He highlighted the party’s ability to reform and mobilize, achieving victory after 14 years, as a testament to Starmer’s leadership qualities.
President Tinubu also congratulated the people and government of the United Kingdom, lauding the nation as a steadfast model of democracy and a longstanding partner of Nigeria.
“The President looks forward to deepening relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom in areas of mutual interest, strengthening democratic institutions, and building a safer, more prosperous future for the people of both countries,” the statement concluded.
