Don Jazzy has never shied away from honesty, and in a recent chat on the Echo Podcast, the Mavin Records boss shared one of the more personal reflections of his life.
The producer, now 42, admitted that marriage is the one chapter he never expected to skip. “I never thought I would be in my forties and not be married,” he said with a hint of candor. Still, he made it clear he has no regrets. “If it comes, it comes. If it doesn’t, I’m totally fine.”
It’s a sentiment that captures both acceptance and maturity. While he remains open to love and partnership, he is also at peace with the life he has built — a life that has shaped some of the biggest stars on the continent, from Tiwa Savage to Rema and Ayra Starr.
Looking back, Don Jazzy reflected on paths he might have taken if music hadn’t worked out. He believes he would still have found a creative lane, either in music or as a full-blown influencer. “One way or another, I would have ended up here,” he said.
Few fans know that Don Jazzy once gave marriage a try in his early twenties. In 2003, before fame came calling, he married model and writer Michelle Jackson in London. But just two years later, the union ended — a breakup he has often linked to his all-consuming devotion to music.
Now, decades later, his career remains his masterpiece, even if marriage didn’t survive the journey.
