Nollywood star Ini Edo has opened up about the challenges she faced before becoming a mother through surrogacy. The actress, who is raising her 3-year-old daughter Light, shared her journey, revealing she experienced multiple setbacks before finally embracing surrogacy.
Ini disclosed that she underwent several rounds of IVF and endured six miscarriages before exploring surrogacy as an option. Her story unfolded during a conversation on the reality show Young, Famous & African, where her co-star, Luis, inquired about her child’s paternity.
When asked about her marital status, Ini clarified she isn’t married and is not involved with her child’s father. She explained, “It’s just me and my child. He doesn’t have anything to do with us.”
In a heartfelt confessional, Ini admitted her journey to motherhood was deeply personal. “Raising my daughter alone wasn’t something I planned to talk about, but it’s my reality,” she said. “There was no man in my life at the time, and I wanted to have a child. Surrogacy became an option, and I’m glad I took it.”
When Luis mentioned his interest in surrogacy despite having a girlfriend, Ini expressed her surprise, adding, “Surrogacy isn’t a decision people just wake up and make. It’s usually born out of unique circumstances.”
Reflecting on her own experience, Ini shared, “I never thought I’d face fertility issues. But after struggling to carry pregnancies to term and realizing time wasn’t on my side, I asked myself, ‘What are my options?’ Surrogacy became the answer, and I’m happy with the path I chose.”
Through her candid revelation, Ini Edo highlighted the complexities of motherhood and the strength it takes to embrace unconventional paths to parenthood.
