“I Broke Down, Then Got Stronger” – Funke Akindele Opens Up About Her Healing Journey
Funke Akindele, beloved actress and filmmaker, recently opened up about a deeply personal chapter in her life—one shaped by public judgment, pain, and ultimately, healing.
While speaking on the Chude Live Conversation Show, Funke didn’t hold back. She recalled a painful moment when a video surfaced online of women mocking her over her marital history. The ridicule wasn’t just noise—it cut deep.
“I saw that video, and it broke me,” she admitted. “They laughed at me for not having a husband, for my past. I cried… and cried. It was too much.”
Rather than bury her emotions, Funke chose a different path: she reached out for help. “I told myself, ‘You can’t keep this all in.’ So I got a therapist, and I started talking. And that changed everything,” she said. “Things I couldn’t say out loud, I shared in those sessions. And I felt lighter.”
Now stronger and more grounded, Funke had a message for anyone going through silent struggles: speak up. “You don’t have to hold it all in. Getting help doesn’t make you weak—it helps you grow stronger.”
She also revealed that the mockery and emotional weight eventually sparked something powerful. “I turned that pain into a script. That story, my story, is now a film. What almost broke me made me bolder.”
Joining her on stage were fellow creatives like Falz, Kiekie, Moses Bliss, Veekee James, Taaooma, and Hauwa Lawal—each sharing their own journeys, reminding the audience that behind every spotlight is a real human story.
