Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, recently shared insights from his unsuccessful flagbearer campaign, acknowledging the valuable lessons learned. Reflecting on his defeat to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Agyapong identified placing too much trust in others as a contributing factor. He candidly admitted, “Maybe this is a preparation; I probably trusted people too much. So now I am learning. I thought I was perfect, but with this election, I know I am not. So, I am learning a lot.”
During a meeting with his support group, We’re for Ken Worldwide, in Minnesota, Agyapong expressed gratitude to his supporters for their confidence and urged them not to lose hope. Dismissing rumors of a potential breakaway from the NPP, he affirmed his unwavering commitment to leading the country within the party.
Agyapong asserted his influence within the NPP, emphasizing that no major decisions can be made without consulting his faction. He thanked his campaign team and highlighted the underestimated strength they demonstrated during the primary. Despite the defeat, Agyapong claimed control over one-third of the NPP, stating, “They underestimated us, but we’ve proven to them that we now control one-third of the NPP.”
In the NPP presidential primary, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia secured victory with 61.47% of the votes (118,210 votes), while Agyapong, the closest contender, garnered 37.41% of the votes (71,996 votes).
