The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has revealed that he will not actively participate in Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership, even if offered the opportunity to do so.
In an interview on the KSM Show aired on Accra-based Pan African Television on Friday (February 23), Mr. Agyapong stressed the importance of allowing Dr. Bawumia to independently navigate his campaign decisions.
“I wouldn’t do it, I just want to allow him to do whatever he wants to do. I don’t want to be vice. What am I going to say?” Mr. Agyapong remarked.
He reiterated his belief in democratic principles, expressing his willingness to contribute in whatever capacity necessary while maintaining a distance from the vice-presidential role.
“While I won’t accept the vice-presidential position, I firmly believe that one doesn’t need to hold the highest office to make a positive impact. My businesses have provided employment opportunities for many Ghanaians, which is deeply fulfilling,” Mr. Agyapong added.
In the NPP’s presidential primary held last year, Vice-President Dr. Bawumia emerged victorious with 118,210 votes, securing 61.47% of the total valid votes cast. In comparison, Mr. Agyapong received 71,996 votes, representing 37.41% of the votes.
