Comedian Bovi Ugboma has weighed in on the recent drama involving a passenger on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos.
The passenger, identified as Comfort Emmanson, reportedly ignored safety instructions during landing, including switching off her phone. According to eyewitnesses and viral clips, she allegedly slapped a cabin crew member, yanked off her wig, stepped on her, and even reached for a fire extinguisher before being restrained.
Security personnel and officials from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria stepped in when she refused to leave the aircraft. In the struggle, her shirt was torn, leaving her partially exposed, before she was escorted off the tarmac and handed over to the police. The matter was also reported to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.
Reacting to the incident, Bovi highlighted the importance of understanding mental health issues. He noted that people often carry deep emotional burdens or unresolved trauma that can influence how they act.
He praised the airline staff for handling the situation calmly, adding that the passenger should receive both a medical evaluation and legal consequences.
“Mental illness isn’t just when someone is wandering the streets,” Bovi wrote on his Instagram story. “Some people are under immense stress, trapped in toxic patterns, or triggered by old wounds. What I saw looked like a manic episode. She should face the law, yes — but she also needs mental health care. Many of us do.”
