Vice President Kashim Shettima recently paid tribute to the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, describing him as a man who transcended political and ethnic divides with his free-spirited nature. The tribute was part of a valedictory session at the Senate Chambers, where Ubah’s remains were laid to rest in the White House Wing.
Shettima, during his heartfelt tribute, acknowledged Ubah as the youngest member of the 9th Senate, a standout figure whose political acumen far exceeded his years. “His ability to build bridges across divides set him apart from more seasoned politicians. Senator Ubah was on a path to even greater success before his untimely passing,” Shettima said.
Reflecting on their interactions while Shettima served as the Governor of Borno State, he shared how Ubah’s generosity knew no limits. “His spirit was free, and he broke down barriers that others struggled to cross,” he added. Shettima offered condolences to Ubah’s family, friends, and associates, reminding everyone that death is a natural part of life’s journey.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio also took a moment to honor Ubah, noting that the session was dedicated to celebrating his life and contributions. Akpabio pointed to Ubah’s seat, draped in the Nigerian flag with four candles, as a symbol of respect. He described Ubah as a visionary leader who was deeply committed to economic empowerment and community development.
The Senate President expressed regret over the void Ubah’s death has created in the nation’s political landscape, emphasizing that replacing such a remarkable figure will be a difficult task. Senators took turns to offer their tributes, praying for strength for Ubah’s loved ones during this time of loss.
