Captain Prince Kofi Amoabeng (rtd), former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the defunct UT Bank and UT Holdings, has announced his support for John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Despite previously aligning with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Amoabeng stated that it’s time to give the former President another opportunity to lead the country.
In an interview on Kofi TV, the business magnate reflected on his seven-year experience since the NPP assumed office in 2016. He clarified his political stance, indicating familial ties to the NDC through his sister, who served as the Member of Parliament for their area and held the position of Deputy Minister for Education until a recent reshuffle.
Amoabeng emphasized that despite his previous leanings towards the NPP, his genuine friendships lie within the NDC. He acknowledged a shift in perspective, citing the need to make the right choice after what he termed a “wrong experiment” with the NPP.
Expressing disappointment with the NPP’s governance, Amoabeng highlighted a perceived failure to meet the nation’s expectations. He believes that Ghanaians placed high hopes in the NPP, only to be let down by their performance.
In light of these sentiments, Amoabeng pledged his full support to the NDC and Mahama, expressing curiosity about the potential of Mahama’s second term in office.
