On Wednesday, Nigerian authorities said they recovered ten bodies after a boat carrying dozens of passengers capsized in a river in the north.
According to a local official, the boat was “far beyond its capacity” with passengers.
The boat was carrying passengers returning from a farm on the Niger River when it split in half as it approached Samanaji village in the Koko-Besse district. More than 80 passengers were saved. Boat accidents are fairly common in Nigeria, with many being blamed on overloading or inadequate safety precautions.
